Every house had a similar looking kitchen with the same materials and designs, so if you went your friends house you knew exactly where everything would and how everything worked. That is not the case nowadays as we have been spoil with choice with a variety of colors and materials to choose from. Even the ignored countertop is much loved and thought about!

The top kitchen countertop trends for 2014 according to wilsonfink.co.uk are as follows.

Thick Counter-tops:
These are thicker than the usual 1 ¼ inch ones that were used previously and their 2-2 ¼ inch thickness makes the counters more sturdy and long lasting. This is also because now we have more heavy electrical appliance to put on top of the counters as well as the fact that they will last longer. Whether it is granite, marble or wood, thick counter tops were definitely a trend in 2013 kitchens and will continue in the coming years.

Well, this is the type of material you use, whether marble or stone, people and designers are opting for those materials that have lesser veins in them making it look more smooth and chic. Remember the whirls in the age old marble slabs? Those are definitely out of fashion and we are now looking at material that is finer in quality and polished, honed and treated to make it look luxurious. As cultivate kitchen designers suggests, this trend is catching up fast and will be all the rage around the world soon. Not only marble, but soapstone is also a great choice for a dramatic look in your kitchen.

Dark colors:
Whilst, lighter color walls and cabinetry was being preferred the world over by designers and homeowners, dark countertops were the top trend in 2013. No idea how long this trend will last but it is definitely in for the time being and is much loved by all. This means black dark ray or any darker color slabs of marble and granite will do to make your kitchen look modern and contemporary.

Stainless Steel Counters:
In other news, stainless is making a huge comeback, and if you oppose the darker toned counter-tops, you can go for this ultra chic and practical look of stainless steel counters. They look awesome and very ultra-modern especially if you have chairs and appliances to match with it.

This is preferred by designers and genuinely gives a look of luxury and richness to your kitchen.
